What is Reiki? Reiki is a form of hands-on healing, which was developed by its founder Mikao Usui in Japan, and first became more accessible in the West during the 1980s. Its name means 'boundless' (rei), 'universal life force' (ki). It is not a religious dogma, and people from all religions can become Reiki practitioners or receive Reiki treatments from others. It is similar to practices like Shiatsu, Qi Gong and Tai Chi, in that it 'uses' the same energy, which is also known as 'chi' or 'ki'. The difference is that a Reiki practitioner acquires the ability to channel this energy through their hands.
